Routes Africa opens in Victoria Falls

The 9th Routes Africa, the largest route development event in Africa, will open this weekend in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. The event will bring together the leading airports, airlines, tourism authorities, policy-makers and aviation stakeholders to develop new air services to, from and within Africa. Hosted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe, Routes Africa 2014 will take place at the Elephant Hills Hotel and Resort 22-24 June     

Chile signs WTTC Open Letter supporting tourism

In recognition of tourism as an important vehicle for socio-economic development, the president of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, has accepted the UNWTO/WTTC Open Letter on Tourism. The government of Chile commits to support the sector in both the national and the international policy agenda. The UNWTO/WTTC Open Letter calls on heads of state and government around the world to acknowledge tourism’s key role in delivering more sustained and balanced growth and prioritize the sector higher in national policies in order to maximize its potential.

Littlehaven station’s £5m improvements completed

Network Rail has completed a £5m project to extend platforms and improve Littlehaven station in Sussex. The Southern-managed station’s platforms have been rebuilt and lengthened to accommodate eight-car trains, meaning passengers no longer have to walk down the train to exit the majority of services. This has also reduced congestion and improved safety on the platforms when longer trains arrive.

Arik Air boost Nigeria commercial relations with new Dubai flight

Arik Air, has reinforced its position as West and Central Africa’s largest commercial carrier by expanding its reach to the Middle East, becoming the first Nigerian airline to offer a commercial service between Abuja, Nigeria and Dubai, The United Arab Emirates. The first commercial flight on the new route is currently slated for Monday, July 28th and will subsequently operate five weekly flights on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from Nigeria and return on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from Dubai.

Jamaica Tourist Board announces increase in UK visitor figures

he Jamaica Tourist Board is seeing an impressive lift in British visitor figures this 2013/2014 winter season, registering a 6% increase in UK travellers from November 2013 to February 2014 on the previous year. This equates to 2,449 more British tourists travelling to the island, compared to the same period in winter 2012/2013.
